Types of Insulated Windows

Two types of insulated windows are usually available: window upgradings and window coverings. Their use depends on whether you want the view to be obstructed or not. Window upgradings are basically windows with double or triple glazing, or windows having additional sheets of plastic on them, with the air trapped between the layers of glass acting as insulation. In contrast, window coverings generally obstruct the view from the windows, as they come in the form of movable insulation, like curtains, foam shutters, multi-layered shades and window quilts that contain a layer of reflective insulation.

Caring of Insulated Windows

During wintertime, condensation might appear on insulated windows. This is normal, but if there is too much water collection in the sills and condensation between the panes of glass is present, it could mean that there is air leakage, and the insulated window is not functioning properly. In a case like this, care should be taken by repairing or replacing the window panes. The north-facing windows tend to require more care, as they get very less heat and have to be insulated all year round, while the east and west facing windows fare slightly better, with the south-facing windows the best of all.
